Fredericia Wastewater wanted to replace a space-demanding lava filter and a large carbon filter in a central pump sump. The existing solution required extensive maintenance and delivered inconsistent treatment of the process air, creating a need for a more reliable and compact system.

Compact and reliable hybrid filter solution

In 2020, a BioMax4000 was installed, combining biological degradation and adsorption in a single, integrated unit.

The hybrid filter significantly reduced the overall footprint of the installation and ensured a stable humidity level and uniform air treatment at an airflow of approximately 2,500 m³/h.

Operation and performance

Measurements from the plant show that BioMax4000 has on average handled approximately 25 ppm H₂S, and in certain periods even up to 1,000 ppm during peak loads, without any loss of treatment efficiency.

The filter has therefore demonstrated its ability to stabilize air quality even under very high load conditions—a significant improvement compared to the previous solution.

The customer’s experience

Fredericia Wastewater highlights in particular:

  • Significant space savings

  • Lower maintenance requirements compared to traditional filters

  • More efficient process air treatment

  • High operational reliability under varying H₂S levels

According to operations manager Jørgen Svendsen, the hybrid filter has delivered “the expected performance and stability,” and he recommends the solution to other utilities.
