Hybridfiltre
Mölndal Municipality in Sweden has achieved a significant reduction in odors at a heavily loaded pump station, where H₂S levels previously reached up to 50 ppm. With the installation of a BioMax600 hybrid filter, concentrations have now been reduced to stable and acceptable levels—and after two years of operation, the filter material remains in good condition.

Stable odor reduction at a heavily loaded pump station with high H₂S levels

Mölndal Municipality has installed a BioMax600 hybrid filter at a chamber top/relief manhole, where two pressure pipelines (Ø400) discharge up to 15,000 m³/day. The pipelines are approximately 1.3 km long and convey wastewater from a catchment area of around 15,000 inhabitants, resulting in large fluctuations in H₂S load.

Prior to installation, H₂S concentrations of up to 50 ppm were recorded, causing odor nuisances, increased risk of corrosion, and the need for a reliable solution capable of handling both high humidity and varying load profiles.

Solution

BioMax600 was installed directly on the manhole structure and now handles all ventilation from the installation. The hybrid filter’s combination of biological degradation and chemical adsorption ensures effective treatment—even under the high humidity levels typically found in pressure pipeline systems.

Result

After two years of continuous operation (2023–2025), the results are clear:

  • H₂S reduced from peaks of up to 50 ppm to stable, acceptable levels

  • No operational disturbances or corrosion issues during the period

  • The filter material remains in good condition and has not required replacement

  • Documented improvements to both the working environment and the surrounding area

BioMax600 has thus proven to be a reliable and long-lasting solution in an installation with both high air volumes and significant H₂S peaks.
